Airbus and UK invest £100m in R&D
The UK government and Airbus are to jointly invest £100m ($156m) in projects aimed at supporting the aerospace sector in England and Wales.
The bulk of the funds ($75m) will be spent on a project at Airbus’ Broughton site in North Wales which will focus on developing new technologies for manufacturing aircraft wings.
Airbus’ Broughton site in North Wales produces the wings for the A380 and currently employs more than 6,000 staff.
Other projects will focus on reducing the environmental impact and cost of operating aircraft throughout their lifecycle.
A further $12.5m has been earmarked for training and upskilling engineers working in the aerospace sector in Wales.
